Just a note about knitting the Giganto items...know that you are not just going to toss these large items in the washing machine and set it to wash. The roving that they are knit of is not spun - it is what we use to spin under normal circumstances.
Yes, it will make a lovely soft item, but care must be taken - a dog or a cat can destroy it in minutes, just enjoying this soft fluffy item. A couple of kids yanking and pulling on it can pull it apart easily. They are beautiful, but they are designer items. Were I to make one, I would make one from the #1 Top Wool Roving instead of the Superwash. Superwash has been treated, scales smoothed down, air sealed in the core and a polymer coating applied so it can be washed. The #1 Top Wool Roving has not had this treatment. It still has those tiny scales the entire length of the fiber. The fiber core is hollow, covered with tiny scales, and with agitation the air in the center of each fiber is forced out, the scales catch on each other...think velcro... and the whole thing "shrinks" and felts tight. You cannot undo this process once it happens.
Personally, I think the blankets are stronger and last longer, but they still cannot just be tossed into a machine and washed.
